by Glen Depke, Traditional Naturopath I know you’re wondering, and it’s good to wonder… What is meant by living at a higher level? Get this picture in your mind. You live in the country on a farm and the nearest house is just a wagon’s wheel down the road. You know, that old dirt road that has not been grated in years. So you travel down this road with the same pickup truck you have used for the past 30 years. At this point the old pickup truck has a bit of rust, some of the nuts and bolts are loose and you can feel this as you travel down the road. You hear the creaks every time you hit a bump in the road and you can almost feel the different parts of your pick up truck shift and move as you drive yourself down the road. You’ve know for years now that you cannot drive too fast down this old dusty road with your pickup truck, after all, if you hit high speeds with the vehicle on the road less traveled, you will likely put your life and the life of others in danger. So of course you keep everything slow and steady as to not put yourself in danger. To maintain your pickup truck you have very little if any effort. You know that some nuts and bolts are loose, there’s some rust that creates some challenges and it may have been some time since it has been in the shop, but heck, you’re just using this to drive that wagon’s wheel down the road every once and a while, so no need to address these areas. All you have to do it put gas in your pickup every once in a while, add some oil on occasion and you can simply let the rain water act as your car wash. In the end you can recognize that this pickup truck was paid off decades ago, there is little money needed for maintenance, upkeep is almost zero and you do not need a team of people to help you care for this. After all, you’re likely never driving more than 30 miles an hour down the road and you are only taking occasional short trips. Simple, easy and effective… By this time you are curious about the higher performance, aren’t you! Now we’ll look at a Formula One race care. You can probably picture the car. It is sleek, lean, colorful and simply looks fast, even standing still. And when it drives by you, you can feel the wind rustle past your body and brush through your hair, you see the blur rush by you and you hear that screeching roar of the engine as it buzzes by you over 200 miles per hour. Awesome! This car is very different though starting with it’s price tag. A high end Formula One team has a season long budget of over $250 million dollars. You heard me right, $250 million. You may be wondering, if you have this high ticket vehicle, there should be very little maintenance right? After all, the pickup truck that was paid off almost three decades ago runs with very little effort, maintenance and cost. So you may feel that if you pay so much for the Formula One car, this should take care of itself right? After all it is likely built with the highest level of expertise and detail. As you can imagine, this is not the case. Typically, just one race will cost upwards of about $13 million dollars or more, there will be a pit crew to care for this car during the race with a team of 14 or more experts in their field. While the pickup truck can have rust and lose nuts, the Formula One car needs everything tight to a level of exactness to function at such a high level. So one can wonder, what does this have to do with your health? It comes down to this. The choice is yours, do you want to be the old, rusted, loose nut pickup truck that moves at slow speeds down the road or… You’re likely thinking right now, “no way, I want to be the Formula One race car, aren’t you!” You want to be sleek, colorful, fast on your feet and have a team of experts around you at all times to care for you! When we look at our culture, or perhaps at ourselves, we often see the old pickup trucks. After all, if we allow ourselves to figuratively; move slow, rust out, have loose nuts and bolts, don’t put much time or effort into maintenance or care and move through life without a health team, our bodies will only be able to handle so much. But when you want the Formula One body, life, energy, relationship and more, this does require a team and an investment. This is where Depke Wellness comes in!
